The Computer-less Evening Experiment
I’m not addicted to my phone and that’s been a blessing. Maybe it’s because I keep all social media off of it and limit the games on it. Or maybe I just don’t like the clumsy input of a touch screen.
But my computer is another issue. Here’s how the pattern works:
When I want to work, I go to my computer.
When I want to write or journal, I go to my computer.
When I want to learn, I go to my computer.
When I want to be productive, I go to my computer.
When I want to play or relieve boredom, I go to my computer.
Even when I’m tired, sometimes instead of going to sleep I go to my computer!
All of these things can be justified individually (except maybe the last one…). But if you put them together it’s too much. My mind is wearing down to the point where life is a downward slope leading away from the physical world and onto my computer.
So here’s an experiment I’m starting this week:
Each weekday I will try to confine my computer time to before 4:20 pm.
I wake up just before 5 and immediately start working on the computer. So that’s over 11 hours. That should be enough to do what I need to do on computers. Right? Right?
I’ll let you know how it goes.
